Tesla Mazda 3

Oh, that is not good.....

Who would have guessed a car built outside in a tent would have quality issues?
![]() 08/07/2019 at 14:23 |

Hoo boy, all that bleeding edge tech and they forgot to galvanize the metal in the body?

You mean Tesla has quality issues?! Shocked I tell you, I am absolutely shocked and charged up about this.

That’s not gonna be good for business.

Design feature. It's self lightening.

But... fresh air!

Nothing like some passive weight reduction. The real question, will the car get lighter at the same rate the batteries max. capacity decays so the range stays constant?

You would think Elon would have been able to utilize the batteries to prevent this...or, maybe just paint the cars correctly.

You just don't understand musk's genious. The car is biodegradable as well!

And I thought my Mazda3 was bad...

Disrupting! Move fast, break things!

I doubt they “forgot,” moar liek they rushed these things through the dip and paint shop in their race to get production rate up.
another possible contributor is if they weren’t careful in their body design and left in places where corrosive materials (water/salt/muck) could find its way in but not drain back out. even with proper anti-corro dip and primer application, if there’s a crevice or something where salty water or mud can collect and sit, it’ll start rusting.
edit: but that second part usually results in paint bubbling as it rusts from the inside out. this looks more like your standard paint de-lamination.

That’s hilariously shoddy. If this was any other brand I’d look at the joins in those panels and the poorly fitted plastic shield and say it’s had a crash and been badly repaired.
Still, I’m glad to see our painters at work can do a better job!

Made in California. Rust needs water. What’s that?

Yeah, same “genius” as Clarkson, I think.

now that I think more about it, the way it’s peeling and exposing bare metal makes me think it’s poor surface prep prior to dip. any residual oil on there is going to seriously hamper adhesion.

That’s more rust than my 10 year old Datsun

Difference is, musk’ s “ genius” does frighten me.

New car rusting?
Color me not surprised.

Engineering Explained did a video on his Model 3 when it was delivered, it had some bubbling.

I’m guessing cost was a factor. When they were designing it, Musk still thought it would be a $35k car.

Hey Elon, try these!
